Crossing of Three National parks.
Village Telgárt was mentioned for the fi rst time in written record from 1326 founded in the Jáger Canonry. They say, that village was founded by Šoltýs Mikuláš, a son of Ladislav Kuno of Spish region. Since 1288, the territory extending from Muráň eastwards was reserved as a hunting ground of the Hungarian kings. This is just a motive for the original name of the village Tiergarten, which means game park, or hunting ground. In the 15th century, this area was often visited by King Matthias Corvinus. The inhabitants of Telgárt dealt with sheep, cattle, wood-processing and carrying trade in the past. In years 1921 to 1934, the preparatory works and construction of railways towards Margecany; the village that time included about 5,000 inhabitants. During World War II, during the Slovak National Uprising, the greatest fi ghts between Germans and the Slovak Army together with partisans occurred. In these struggles the village was burned on 5. Sept. 1944, 263 homes were burned up, and its restoration was carried out only in the 50s. The monument commemorating the Slovak National Uprising was built in the village, which now stands in the square of the village Telgárt.
