The town Galanta lies in the south-western part of Slovakia. Not big in area, but more interesting in its variety. An essential role in town history played the Esterházy family, which had two beautiful manor houses built in Galanta. The minor one, a Renaissance manor house, dated from around 1600, includes a Galery, the topographical exhibition of Galanta and burgher’s housing. The bigger and younger Neo-Gothic manor house rises in urban park. It was built by brothers Daniel and Paul Esterházy in 1633. The manor house is being gradually restored and today it off ers the gallery, memorial rooms of Karol Duchoň and Zoltán Kodály, the room of old gramophones, a themed restaurant with a cafe and a wine bar, a tourist information centre, and the exhibition “Galanta on the spiral through the centuries”. The courtyard of the manor house provides the scenery for many cultural and social events. The most visited are the Galanta Markets, Run Through Galanta, the famous Family of Esterházy de Galantha, or Cantilena – a memorial concert of Karol Duchoň.
