The municipality of Turčianske Jaseno is located in the Turiec Basin, approximately 8 km north-east of the district town Martin. It was created in 1974 by the merger of two separate municipalities – Horné and Dolné Jaseno. The fi rst written mentions of both villages came from the fi rst half of the 13th century. The Jesenský family was developing in both villages, from which the famous scientist, politician, doctor Dr. Jan Jessenius came. The history of the village is presented by the memorial room of the Jesenský family, the early-Gothic church of St. Margita from the 13th century and several historical fortresses. The surrounding of the village is circumferenced by beautiful countryside suitable for year-round tourism.
