The village Cígeľ, with 1280 inhabitants, is situated on the north-west foot of the Vtáčnik Mountains in the altitude of 465 m, in the valley deepened by the Cíglianka creek. Cígeľ with attribute the foothills, partisan and mining village. The territory of the village is an exceptionally attractive landscape, a new housing and residential construction, a ski centre, a multipurpose water reservoir. In the former mines there is a mining open-air museum, and in the former family house there is a Chamber of Revolutionary Traditions about the development of the village from the beginning of this century to the present day. The village organizes the social and sports events of Slovak importance. For more than 37 years, the winter tourism and social event “The Commemorative March of the Slovak National Uprising (SNU)”
takes place in January every year. The village also becomes the centre of regional events during the carnival, bonfi re of SNU, volleyball and football matches, or the Cígeľská kosa competition. Thanks to the picturesque image of the village and the landscape, the village of Cígeľ succeeded in the Village of the Year competition.
